Join us at Spice Monkey this Thanksgiving (this Thursday for dinner). They will be hosting their 5th
annual, “Day Of Giving” thanksgiving meal for the community on Thursday, November 28, 2013. The restaurant is offering a free traditional holiday dinner with a “Spice Monkey twist” as a way to raise canned food donations and awareness of the Alameda County Community Food Bank and its 275 Bay Area agencies.

For the past four years, Spice Monkey has hosted this celebration as a “thank you” to people who donate 14 or more cans each, which has resulted in more than 3,500 lbs of donated canned food to those in need. Guests can enjoy the warmth and ambiance of the season in the restaurant’s beautifully tiled, two-story location in downtown Oakland and designated historic landmark, The Howden & Sons Building. We will be there along with several other volunteers welcoming and serving folks for dinner (without the Airstream).

The restaurant’s owners, Kanitha Matoury, Guy Karmi and their staff look forward to the event each year. “We love hosting this meal because it speaks to our mission, creating community through delicious food, herbs and spices.” Starting November 12th, Spice Monkey will be accepting reservations. Due to limited seating, they request that guests bring in their canned goods to secure their seat at the holiday table by November 22th. The complimentary meal will include a main course and special dessert treat. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. For those who cannot attend, there will be a pre-celebration party they are calling, “The Grateful Hour” which will include food and drink specials held on Thursday, November 21st from 4pm – 7pm in which people can bring 2 cans for a special gift or 14 cans each to make their “Day of Giving” reservation. The Alameda County Community Food Bank also accepts monetary donations.
