Loving the California Coast – Costanoa and Santa Cruz
We are spending some of October and November in the Santa Cruz area and want to show you the highlights:)
Brenda and Cece at Pie Ranch along Highway 1
The Pie Ranch “barn” is on highway 1 between Pescadero and Santa Cruz. Their sustainable farming practices emphasize soil fertility, biological diversity, growing for local markets, and creating a relationship-based food system. They also grow ALL the makings for pie. They educate through their Youth Education and Leadership Development program and they have farmer apprenticeships. Stop by the next time you are nearby.

Camping and Coffee – yummy
Costanoa Farm – fresh veggies for their restaurant
Costanoa is a beautiful retreat and campground including tent sites, RV spots, tent cabins, cabins and lodge rooms. They have a healthy respect for nature and the beautiful surroundings of the Pacific ocean and their restaurant serves local organic ingredients in their food, many of which come from their very own organic farm on the property.

Making wine at Bonny Doon Winery – Santa Cruz
While in Santa Cruz, we went several times to the Bonny Doon Winery tasting room. They crush and make the wine right in front of the tasting room and you can walk by at any time to see the process – very cool. Since early 2004, BD has been practicing biodynamic viticultural practices which is an integrated, holistic agricultural practice, based on the teachings of Rudolf Steiner.
